We recognize that handling the personal information entrusted to us properly, in compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan and related guidelines (and, for users who live outside Japan, the laws of their country or region), is one of our important responsibilities. We have therefore established this Privacy Policy, make it known to and ensure it is thoroughly observed by everyone involved, including our employees and contractors, and strive to keep improving.

Article 1 (Definition of personal information)

In this Privacy Policy, "personal information" means information that can identify a specific individual, such as a name, nickname, gender, date of birth, address, telephone number or email address, including information that can identify an individual when combined with other information. We also handle information that cannot identify a specific individual on its own, such as device identifiers (notification addresses), IP addresses and usage records, in the same way as personal information, as information about users.

Article 2 (Information we collect and how we collect it)

  1. When we collect personal information, we state the purposes of use in advance and collect it by lawful and fair means. We handle the personal information we collect appropriately within the stated purposes and do not use it for any other purpose. We also take security measures to prevent use beyond those purposes.
  2. We collect the following information (only what each Service needs):
    • Account information: email address, password (stored in a form that cannot be reversed), country or region, time zone, language and currency
    • Sign-in with Apple or Google: the email address we receive from Apple or Google (if you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", a forwarding address provided by Apple), the identifier that Apple or Google assigns to each user, your name (used only to pre-fill the account creation screen) and information used to disconnect from Apple (used only for signing in, creating your account and disconnecting)
    • Name and related information: name, phonetic reading of the name, name in Roman letters, nickname, gender, date of birth, address, telephone number and name on receipts

    • Records of agreement: the type and version of the terms agreed to, the date and time, IP address, browser information and the language of the terms shown on the agreement screen

  3. We collect this information from what users enter themselves, from records created as users use the Services, and from what teachers and parents or guardians enter (for example, lesson records entered by a teacher, or a child's name registered by a parent or guardian). When you sign in with your Apple or Google account, we receive the information listed under "Sign-in with Apple or Google" in the previous paragraph from Apple or Google, within the scope you allow on Apple's or Google's screen.
  4. Sheet music and drills in the PiaDOOR app can be used without logging in. In that case, we do not collect any personal information (records are kept only on the device). Importing sheet music with the camera, turning pages with facial gestures and recording are done only on the device; we do not collect the video or audio.

We use users' personal information for the following purposes:

Article 4 (Information visible between teachers and students in the PiaDOOR app)

  1. In the PiaDOOR app, when a student (including a parent or guardian) connects with a teacher by accepting the teacher's invitation, the following information becomes visible to both the teacher and the student or their parent or guardian. This is the core of the Service and results from the user's own action (connecting).
    • Names, lesson schedules and records, monthly fee and charge records, chat messages, and sheet music and sheet music annotations sent by the teacher
A student's sheet music (imported sheet music, annotations, lists and practice records) is not visible to the teacher.
  2. When the connection is ended, no new messages can be sent. Earlier chats and records remain as the teacher's records. When a teacher deletes their teacher registration (including by deleting their account), the students and parents or guardians who were connected with that teacher can no longer see the chats, lessons or monthly fee records with that teacher. Sheet music annotations sent by the teacher remain on the student's sheet music (the teacher's name is not shown).

Article 5 (Provision of personal information to third parties)

  1. We do not provide personal information to third parties without the person's prior consent, except in the following cases:

  2. In addition, in the following cases we may provide the necessary information to the parties concerned within the purposes of use in this Privacy Policy, whether or not this counts as provision to a third party:
    • In PiaDOOR Piano School Directory, providing information given by students and parents or guardians to schools and teachers as needed
    • In the PiaDOOR app, sharing the information in Article 4 between connected teachers and students or their parents or guardians

  1. To the extent necessary for our business, we may outsource all or part of the handling of personal information to external providers (for example, instructors, venue staff, judges, payment providers, delivery companies, system operators and AI data analysis and processing services). In that case, we enter into the necessary contracts with them, supervise them appropriately and do not let them handle personal information beyond what is needed for the purposes of use. We require them to protect personal information to the same standard as this Privacy Policy.
  2. If a party to which we provide personal information, or to which we outsource its handling, under this Article is located in a country outside Japan, we will inform you in advance of the name of that country, its system for protecting personal information and the protective measures taken by that party, and obtain your consent (or, if you are a minor, the consent of a person with parental authority). However, this does not apply if that country meets the standards set by the rules of the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan (such as the EU and the UK), or if that party continuously maintains a system that meets those standards.
